Your purchase helps the Library, too. While we do receive funding from Strathcona County (76%) and the Province (12%), we count on card revenue to help us pay for library materials and other costs. Strathcona County Library earns more than $120,000 a year from the sale of library cards. So consider a card - it's a good deal all around!

Who Can Get a Card?

Anyone who resides in or owns property in the County is eligible for a $12 annual Strathcona County Library card. To get one, visit the library or the Bookmobile with ID and proof of address. Cards are good for one year from date of purchase, and must be renewed each year.

Don't live in the County? Visit our Check Out Desk or give us a call at (780) 410-8600 to find out what other card options are available to you. You may be eligible for one of the other card types below.

If you live in Fort Saskatchewan, your valid Fort Saskatchewan Public Library card can be used to request and check out items from Strathcona County Library.

Please note that once you have $10 or more in unpaid fines, you will not be able to borrow books or renew items.

If you lose your card, please let us know as soon as possible. You are responsible for any items borrowed on your card until you report it missing.

Going on vacation? We can extend the loan period for your materials up to the maximum loan period limit as long as nobody else has placed your items on request! Talk to the library staff when you check out your items.

The Alberta Library [TAL] Cards

TAL card If you have a library card from a participating Alberta library, you can apply for a free The Alberta Library [TAL] Card. This card lets you borrow up to 5 books from participating libraries all across the province. This service is great for travelers!

Please note: a TAL Card must be issued by your home library. Learn more at The Alberta Library Website.


Notifications

You can be notified of holds and overdue items by our phone notification system, VELMA.

On your request, we can notify you of information about your account by email instead. Contact us to request this change.

Pre-Overdue Notices

Starting Jan 9, 2012, customers who have given the library an email address as part of their contact information will begin receiving a courtesy email 2 days prior to a checked-out item coming due.

Want to save yourself some extended use fees, and begin getting this service? Just talk to the staff at the Check Out Desk about having your email address added to the contact information that’s associated with your library card.
