Babies & Toddlers

It's never too early to start! Rich experiences during the preschool years are critical for developing literacy and social skills. Select from a variety of free and fun literacy-based programs.

Baby Rhyme & Laptime
(Ages 0-12 months, with a caregiver)
Registered

Babies and their grown-ups share nursery rhymes, fingerplays, musical activities, flannel board stories and simple storybooks. This program is a lapsit and rhyme time designed especially for pre-walking babies. Books, music, and movies for parenting and early childhood are also recommended. The program runs approximately 30 minutes with time afterwards for socialization and play.

Fun For Ones
(Ages 12 - 24 months, with a caregiver)
Registered

Toddlers and their grown-ups discover a variety of nursery rhymes, fingerplays, musical activities, flannelboard stories and simple storybooks. Books, music and DVDs for parenting and early childhood are also recommended. The program runs approximately 30 minutes with time afterwards for socialization and play.

Song, Sign, and Rhyme Time
(Ages 0 - 24 months, with a caregiver)
Registered

Engage children through rhymes, songs and basic sign language while building literacy and communication skills. Playful oral activities, musical instruments and puppets stimulate multiple senses and promote development. Program concludes with snacks, information for parents and play activities.

Facilitated by Parent Link staff and hosted by Strathcona County Library.

Twos and Threes

Tiny Tales
(Ages 24 - 42 months, with a caregiver)

Explore the world in stories and reinforce language development and learning through picture books, rhymes, fingerplays, films and musical activities.
This lively and interactive program offers a special one-on-one time for children and their caregivers. Please make childcare arrangements for your other
children.

Three to Six Year Olds

Stories Alive
(Ages 3 - 6 years, unparented)
Registered

Preschool children will be engaged by stories, rhymes and musical activities in a group setting. Programs feature seasonal or popular preschool themes and are designed to develop imagination, language and listening skills. These programs offer an important first step for children to attend a half hour program independently, knowing that parents (caregivers) are nearby.

Family Storytime
(Ages 2 - 6 years, with a caregiver)

You asked -- we responded! This program is designed for families with children 2 - 6 years old. Enjoy stories together and support early literacy skills through engaging books, rhymes, fingerplays, movies and musical activities. At least one child must be in the recommended age group but siblings may also
register.

Rise and Shine Storytime
(Ages 2 - 6 years, families welcome)
Drop-in

Join us for stories, fingerplays and songs selected to promote language, listening and early literacy skills. Children 3 years and older may choose to attend independently or may invite their families to join storytime.

Free passes available at the Information Desk, 30 minutes before each program.

Stay and Play with Parent Link
(Preschool children and caregivers)
Drop-in

Following Rise and Shine Storytime, Parent Link staff open their cupboard full of “edutainment” activities to provide an hour of guided play. Caregivers are required to participate with their children for this portion of the Saturday morning programming. (Note: This program does not run on weekends with a statutory holiday.)
